I picked up a few new to me food intolerance friendly cereals yesterday, including Alara Chocolate Porridge. I am on a mission to add a bit of variety to my normal bowl of puffed rice cereal (still a much loved classic) and porridge.
Alara Chocolate Porridge ONLY contains wholegrain oats, real cocoa, banana flakes and dates for some natural sweetness.
Alara Chocolate Porridge Ingredients
- Oats Porridge (73.5%)
- Dates Chopped (16%)
- Cacao powder (5%)
- Banana flakes (very fine, almost powder) (3.5%)
- Cacao Nibs (2%)
I purchased mine from Sainsburys for £2.49.
The porridge is really quick to make due to the smallness of the oats, so a few mins at the kitchen stove I had myself a delightful bowl of Chocolate Porridge to try.
Mmmmmmmm now I just want some more.
It has a great texture, really warming as you would expect, a fantastic crunch from the cocoa nibs (one of my favorites) and a perfect sweetness from the dates. In summary Alara Chocolate Porridge is delicious.

April 2, 2012 at 3:18 pmHello Carole my favorite way to sweeten porridge without sugar is to cut up half an apple really small and a few chopped dates and a sprinkle of cinnamon and them to the mix porridge mix once its started to cook a little – delicious.

April 11, 2012 at 4:57 pmHello Carole,
You could also try agave, honey or even stevia which is a plant-based sweetner that has just been released in the UK.
You can also add mashed banana to the porridge once it’s cooked.
You can also replace some of the liquid with fruit juice – I’m not sure of the exact quantity I use – I just generally splash things in until they look right!

January 27, 2016 at 9:24 amHi there,
What is your ratio from grams to cups? I have been trying to figure it out so I can portion it out properly for this product. Would 40 grams be 1/2 cup? I started with 1/4 a cup, and it did not seem like enough so I ended up adding another 1/4 cup.
Thanks!
