Being a Fussy Foodie/ Gluten Free/ Wheat Free

Whole grain & gluten free

We should all be eating more Whole Grain Foods for health but for those on a gluten-free or wheat-free diet, getting the recommended three portions per day can be particularly challenging. The range of  ‘free from’ foods is getting better all the time but so many of them use refined and white starches. So we have trawled the supermarkets and online suppliers to bring you a list of products that are whole grain and gluten free, retaining the goodness of the whole grain.

NB. Prices are the cheapest I could find, correct as of April ’09

The standards for being organic mean that it mustn’t contain GM ingredients but doesn’t mean to say if not organic then must be GM – e.g using pesticides / fertilisers = not organic but not GM.
There is a nice little summary from foods standards agency here:

Good suggestion Katrina. I have never eaten Amaranth but it is gluten free and relatively high in protein and fibre, although the glycaemic index (GI) is high.
Does anyone have any amaranth recipes we could try? I promise to post the result, good or bad!!
